BIG CHANGES COMING TO ALAMEDA LANDING

Just north of Target and the Alameda Landing Shopping Center, on the northeast side of the main island of Alameda, the City of Alameda’s Recreation & Parks Commission is planning a waterfront plaza and promenade. The Alameda Landing Waterfront​ will eventually include a world-class, 8-acre park along the half mile of shoreline.

The plaza will provide a gateway for visitors and residents to Alameda Landing’s Waterfront experience. The waterfront area will be located east of Bay Ship and Yacht. 5th Street will run into the waterfront plaza, and looking north, the view will highlight Oakland’s Broadway Skyline and Jack London Square.

The plaza will feature pop-up kiosks, a retail plaza, patio seating, picnic areas with BBQ pits, recreation courts, a climbing structure, and a fish cleaning area.

The promenade will offer a quarter-mile of public access with walking and biking trails, seating areas, exercise stations, a recreation area, picnic areas, and views of the estuary and beyond. The area will be filled with a wide variety of trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, and ground covering.

At the water’s edge, the plaza will feature a water shuttle landing and kayak launch area, and kayak rental and storage will be available.

This is an exciting time in Alameda, as this development brings outdoor recreational space and businesses to this evolving part of the main island.
