This picturesque home sits back from the street behind a beautiful garden that has espaliered concord grape vines on the left and three varieties of espaliered fig trees on the right. Peach, pear and lime trees bear fruit, while tall planter boxes separate the garden from the sidewalk. Cedar shingles cover the house exterior, and a sweet front porch brings to mind a quaint New England cottage just steps from the beach!
But this home is so much more than it’s charming exterior! Attention to detail and the quality of materials are literally unparalleled in this magical home, all of which is evident as soon as you step inside. Because of the ingenious design utilizing every inch of available space, this home feels much bigger than its 835 square feet. A great room with a 16-foot ceiling includes an open living room, dining room, and a perfectly proportioned kitchen that plays an integral part of the home’s delightful ambiance. WarmBoard radiant heat sit beneath a floor made from reclaimed shiplap boards, and 100-year-old redwood salvaged from the original house has been repurposed for the stair rails, a bathroom accent wall, shelving, Living room console and more. The kitchen counters are made with reclaimed old growth Doug fir, and the refrigerator, dishwasher and gas range are high-end Smeg appliances. A Williams Sonoma center island provides extra storage and workspace, and its Carrara marble top is sure to please any baker!
The bathroom was designed with as much thought given to comfort and finishes as the rest of the home. Radiant heat lies beneath the white hex-tile floor, and a generously sized, freestanding soaking tub sits under reclaimed redwood wall panels. A large walk-in shower has a custom glass enclosure, and the Bay Area’s own Heath Tiles make a colorful surround. A gorgeous teak vanity is made by Williams Sonoma and topped with a white porcelain vessel sink. The hanging barn door used for the bathroom door is made from redwood used in the original house, and was handcrafted by the (very talented!) present owners. The sunny bedroom loft has a high ceiling, views of the pretty backyard and garden, and is large enough to accommodate a king bed. The closets include Elfa organizers in addition to a recessed storage area.
The fenced, private backyard garden is a treat for both the eyes as well as the senses. Blooming jasmine, honeysuckle and trumpet vines grow abundantly, and an enclosed outdoor shower was built with reclaimed wood and corrugated metal–a real treat for those hot summer days! A detached office has a closet and workspace, and is large enough to accommodate guests. An aesthetically pleasing matching shed is used for storage. Architectural plans for a 390-square-foot backyard ADU were approved in 2018, and come with the home.
